Don't 'pank my bum!

"Don't 'pank my bum!" ... "Don't 'pank my bum!" -- were the 2-yr-old cries heard faintly coming from the back bedroom. So, of course I had to go see what was going on. Guilt was written all over Anaya's face.
Glancing down at the top of Elise's desk, I saw the reason for it: a pair of scissors and a nice chunk of blonde hair. Yep, one pigtail definitely had less hair than the other!

Thankfully, she only took chunks out of it, rather than cut it straight off. Looks like she has a knack for hairdressing. Hey, maybe she could thin my hair!

Unfortunately, not coffee grounds

I got out the blender the other day, set it on the counter, moved it over a bit, and noticed a few dark specks on the countertop where the blender had just been. So, standing on a chair, I decided to inspect the shelf where I had taken the blender down from, and discovered what you see in the picture. Nice!

I wish I could say somehow we spilled coffee grounds under the blender on the top shelf, but no, this is something else... and no, not nice! Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting!

Yes, the bottom part of the blender had become home to a cockroach, and this was the evidence of his apparently several-month stay. Yum.

Mmmm...Mmmm... think I might head off to go make a smoothie!

(On second thought, maybe I'll go fill up the bleach bottle instead! Ugghhh!)

Can you tell me the whole gospel message?

I love it when people ask questions like, "Why is Jesus the only way?", "Can people find their own path in life?", "What is the complete gospel?" -- it's a wide open door for sharing :-).

I (Amy) have been meeting for awhile with a Taiwanese friend on Friday mornings so that we can practice speaking English & Chinese.

Recently, as I have asked her to help me review lessons in the book I am currently studying, "Christian Vocabulary", these questions have come up.

Please pray with us that we will be able to clearly, simply and yet thoroughly continue to share the Good News, and that J. will come to know the love, peace, and hope we have in Christ! :-)

Happy Happy Thanksgiving!

(We have a van!!!)

When we moved to Taiwan, we had two kids. We got good exercise walking everywhere... including the grocery store & vegetable/fruit markets. When we needed groceries, it was a 15-minute walk to the nearest Wellcome, or a 15-minute walk to the MRT, train ride, then 10-minute walk to the nearest Carrefour. On the way back, we would both be loaded up with groceries -- put in backpacks and bags, plus one kid on the shoulders and one in the umbrella stroller. A bit of effort, but do-able.

Then, we got a motorbike! It was great fun being able to ride around and discover new places that we were not able to walk to, and even more fun to buzz down to the grocery store and not have to carry heavy bags all the way home.

After living in Taiwan nearly a year, someone from our church (whom we didn't even know) gave us their old car. Now we could drive places :-). What a huge huge blessing!

After Anaya joined us, we pretty much maxed out both modes of transportation. It was still possible to run around locally with all 5 of us on the motorbike. (Elise & Kenna standing in front of Michael, and Anaya on Amy's lap.) In the car, we were full-up with 2 car seats and a booster seat.

When Nathan came along however, we thought it might be a good idea to pray for a van :-) We fit all 6 of us on the motorbike occasionally... and in the car we had to have one of the bigger girls always on a lap in the front -- overall a bit crowded... and neither one very safe nor legal...

So, we began praying -- the girls prayed almost every night before they went to sleep, and all of us especially prayed every time we would go somewhere all together in the car!

Several months ago a church in the States that prays for us faithfully every week felt like they wanted to help us get a van!!! We were overwhelmed with their kindness & incredibly generosity! With great excitement, we began to go out looking. We got in lots of Chinese practice while looking too. :-) We searched for awhile, trying to find something that met all of our criteria. We were all hoping and praying for various things...

After 2 months of searching, we finally found "the one". For the year (2003) & mileage (18,000 mi) the price was considerably lower than most of the other vans we had looked at in the same year/with similar mileage. Plus, this one exceeded all of our dreams -- having several extras such as a sunroof, window curtains, DVD player and even karaoke if we want! So, we feel incredibly incredibly and overwhelmingly blessed!! We found the van the day before Thanksgiving, and purchased it on Thanksgiving Day. So, it truly was a Thanksgiving Celebration for us here! We are so thankful to God for His faithful provision and to those who gave so generously towards this wonderful gift! We are more than blessed!!!

Sitting & Playing

I'm getting so big! I'm almost 9 months already!

Right now I am quite entertained just sitting on the floor, rolling around, & playing with toys.

My sisters love to play with me. Elise likes to hold me. Kenna likes to bounce me (& bounce me & bounce me). Anaya just tried standing on top of me the other day -- I couldn't breathe so well, as she was standing right on my tummy, but Daddy came to the rescue.

Most days I just love to smile and talk to whoever wants to listen.

Diving back in...

This week we have officially jumped back into language study!

Elise has long passed us up, and last week we were told by Taiwanese friends that Kenna's Chinese has also surpassed ours... so it is high time for Michael & I to get back at it!

The past couple of years we have focused on running Titus and working with SBS, which has been great and which we will continue to do, but we are going to take a break and work on our language for awhile, so that we can be more effective in what we feel called to here.

We are excited to finally be able to make some progress in our speaking, reading and comprehension -- though we know we have lots of long hours and work ahead of us!!

Termite Killers

About twice a year we have an invasion of flying ants - a.k.a termites!

They come in through the windows, cracks, airconditioner vents, and anywhere else they possibly can!

Usually all the walls of the house that have a window on them are literally crawling with hundreds of termites -- and we get to have fun for a few hours swatting, stepping, wiping -- trying to exterminate them all before we go to bed.

Here are Elise and Kenna self-armed for termite battle! We lost count after awhile -- but they got an awful lot!

One year we forgot about the laundry room -- and found the bottom of a laundry basket just crawling... and one of Michael's good shirts full of eaten-through holes. :P

Getting Around...

...so, 5 was do-able, but I think we may have officially outgrown our motorbike now with 6...!??!
